Our Veterinary Surgeons

We have six permanent vets - ranging in experience from 4 to 40+ years qualified - and all are happy to treat all types of animals.  Each full-time vet works in both Biggar and Peebles surgeries on a rota basis, so you can see the vet of your choice at either premises.  As a practice we do all of our own out-of-hours work, so if you are a registered client and have an emergency at night or at the weekend, one of our own vets will answer the phone and be able to help.

Trevor Black BVMS MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon and Practice Principal

Trevor graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 1998, and after working in various mixed practices around the country, took over at Two Rivers Vets in 2005.  He enjoys the variety that working in mixed practice brings, including surgery on dogs and cats, challenging medical cases, equine visits and farmwork.  Trevor particularly appreciates being able to build up long-term relationships with his regular clients and their animals.

Outside of work, Trevor is kept busy with five children, two cats, and his wife's horses.  He enjoys watching rugby and drinking wine.

David Campbell BVM&S MRCVS - Assistant Veterinary Surgeon

David grew up helping out on his family’s farm in Northern Ireland, and graduated from the 'Dick Vet' in Edinburgh in 1998.  He initially worked in mixed practice in NI, then moved to Biggar in 2001 when the practice was still owned by Les Clerihew.  David enjoys the challenges of mixed practice and relishes the opportunity to develop his skills with as wide a range of species as possible.  He is the resident poultry and bee-keeping expert!

David lives in Biggar with his wife and three children, and is an active member of the local church.  His hobbies include wood carving and amateur dramatics.

Danielle Crawford BVM&S MRCVS - Assistant Veterinary Surgeon

Local girl Danielle graduated from the 'Dick Vet' in 2008, and worked in mixed practice in Fife as well as undertaking a short equine internship before joining Two Rivers in 2012.  Danielle enjoys all aspects of mixed practice but has a particular interest in horses, and is kept busy building up the equine side of the practice.

Danielle is an active member of Peebles Riding Club and also competes in BE events when she has time.  She lives on a farm and helps her husband with their cows and sheep as well as looking after her young family.

Mark Johnston BVMS MRCVS - Assistant Veterinary Surgeon

Mark Johnston

Mark graduated in 2013 from the University of Glasgow, and worked in several small animal practices in the south of Scotland before moving to Two Rivers in 2019. He has a keen interest in surgery, especially soft tissue surgery. However, Mark grew up on a farm and has spent years horse riding, so fancied the challenge of becoming a mixed practice vet hence the move to join our team. Mark also has a growing interest in equine reproduction.

In his spare time Mark is generally found mucking out and training horses on his livery yard near Biggar, out competing with his wife, or looking after their young son and numerous horses and dogs.

Abigail Finlayson BVMS MRCVS - Assistant Veterinary Surgeon

Abigail Finlayson

Abigail graduated in 2019 from the R(D)SVS and joined Two Rivers in July 2022, after three years in mixed practice in Dumfries and Galloway. She originally hails from Carnwath, and saw practice with us a student, so we are delighted she has now returned closer to home to work at Two Rivers.

Abigail spends most of her time in Biggar consulting, working up small animal medical cases and operating on surgical patients. However she is happy to help you out with all animals - be it the smallest of creatures to tonne weight bulls. She lives with her husband-to-be and enjoys providing veterinary care to their own herd of cattle.

Amy Kerr BVMS MRCVS - Assistant Veterinary Surgeon

Amy Kerr vet

Amy graduated from the ‘Dick Vet’ in 2018 and worked in mixed practice in Dumfries and Galloway for just over 3 years. She joined us in 2022 to provide holiday cover through the summer and returned again in 2023 to help out. In autumn 2023 Amy, became part of of team of vets permanently, and now works 3 days per week, in a small animal consulting role.

Amy lives on a farm that her partner manages, and they also have a smallholding just outside of West Linton. In her spare time, she enjoys looking after their small herd of Longhorn cattle as well as sheep, chickens, dogs and cats.

Frey Peto BSc/MSc MRCVS - Assistant Veterinary Surgeon

Frey joined the practice in September 2023. She is orginally from the Netherlands, where she qualified in 2013. Her first job was in farm animal practice in Stirlingshire, followed by several years in academia undertaking a PhD. Frey works mainly in our Peebles surgery, and while she focuses on small animals, she is equally happy to undertake large animal work.

In her spare time, Frey likes to run (mainly after her two children, many pets and Shorthorn cattle!) or can be found socialising with friends & family.

Iain Butt BVM&S MRCVS - Assistant Veterinary Surgeon (part-time)

Iain Butt

Iain graduated from the 'Dick Vet' in 1976.  He spent most of his veterinary career building up his own practice in Loanhead, from which he retired in 2014.  Iain works in our Biggar surgery on Saturday mornings, which helps reduce pressure on the duty vet and allows us to offer more appointments for clients who work during the week.  He also provides occasional cover for us during the week for busy periods or holidays.

The rest of Iain's time is spent mostly looking after his small herd of Hereford cows and four horses, and walking his Staffordshire Bull Terrier Sophie.
