Our Veterinary Nurses

Our Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs) are a hugely important part of the team.  They are all fully qualified and registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.  In addition we usually have Student Veterinary Nurses in both surgeries, who are in training at college and come on placement to gain practical experience in practice. Our RVNs are assisted by a full time Animal Care Assistant (ACA) in Biggar.

Veterinary Nursing is the supportive care of animals receiving treatment within a veterinary practice. Our Veterinary Nurses provide expert nursing care for all animals admitted to the practice, and are skilled in undertaking a range of diagnostic tests, medical treatments, minor surgical procedures (under veterinary direction), and monitoring pets under anaesthetic. They play a huge role in maintaining equipment and a sterile theatre environment, maintaining drug stocks and supplies, and managing our kennels.

Veterinary Nurses also play a significant role in educating owners on maintaining the health of their pets, and offer a range of services during consulting times including nail clips, blood sampling, health checks, microchipping, second vaccinations and other routine injections, weight clinics and post-op checks.

Lisa Mackintosh RVN (Biggar and Peebles)

Lisa Mackintosh RVN

Lisa qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2012 and spent 13 years working in a busy small animal, first opinion practice in Glasgow. She is originally from rural Perthshire, but moved to the Clydesdale area in 2020 and enjoys the beautiful surroundings we have to offer. Lisa spends her time looking after her young family, as well as Labrador Cuillin, Rambo the Chihuahua and Pancho the cat!

Lisa joined us in 2021 and brings a huge amount of veterinary nursing experience to the practice - she has also previously worked as a veterinary receptionist so knows how the surgery runs inside out. She works part-time, mostly in Biggar but also travels across to Peebles.

The variety of tasks involved in veterinary nursing and a love of animals drew Kelly to the profession - she enjoys meeting patients and their owners during nursing consults, and on admission to the practice for operations. When not at work Kelly enjoys spending time with her family and paddle boarding with her two dogs.
